A number of MPs presented, during the last parliamentary session, a bill to revise the law governing land transport, justifying their initiative by the crisis facing public transport, as well as by what they described as restrictions on the granting of licenses for the unregulated land transport sector.
The bill provides for the deletion of two articles from the 2004 law governing land transport, namely articles 23 and 24, which would be replaced by two new articles providing for the replacement of the license by specifications published by decree of the Minister of Transport, as well as a prior declaration to the competent services of the ministry for obtaining the professional card.
According to MPs, this reform aims to simplify administrative procedures and better supervise a sector which still remains largely informal, while meeting the needs for more efficient and accessible public transport.
The bill is expected to be examined soon by the Committee on Strategic Planning, Sustainable Development, Transport, Infrastructure and Regional Planning during the current parliamentary session.
