From 2026, an ambitious long -term cooperation project will be launched between the Ministry of Agriculture and Hydraulic Resources and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koica).
This partnership, an estimated amount of $ 13.5 million, will be fully funded by a donation granted by the Korean party. The announcement was made by Mohamed Hassan, in charge of projects within the Korean agency, on the sidelines of the Networking Forum organized on Friday on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Koica.
This project, which will register for a period of five years, is still in the preliminary study phase. It aims to modernize and make Tunisian agriculture more efficient, in particular in the face of the challenges posed by climate change.
The emphasis will be placed on intelligent agriculture, in particular through the improvement of the productivity of major crops and plantations of olive trees, but also by investing in research and development to optimize production conditions.
The approach adopted will consist in identifying the solutions best suited to the Tunisian context, whether it be irrigation or the improvement of seeds.
The project will be carried out in partnership with the Office des Land Terres (OTD), with whom field visits have already been made. According to the first guidelines, the pilot experiments will take place on agricultural farms under the OTD, located in the governorates of Nabeul, Kairouan and Béja.
This project marks a new step in the modernization strategy of Tunisian agriculture, combining innovation, sustainability and international cooperation.
