During a meeting held Monday, November 24 with the head of government Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, President Kaïs Saïed refocused executive action around exemplarity, responsibility and strict respect for the Constitution.
The Head of State demanded that each public official live up to his mission and be aware of popular expectations. He also warned that the state will intervene against abuses, unjustified privileges and those it accuses of compromising the country.
Govern as a duty, not a privilege
According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed recalled that the exercise of power is not a status but a heavy burden. He warned officials who, he said, view their positions as a personal achievement rather than a commitment to the nation.
For the President, the essential thing does not lie only in the legal texts but in the rigor and integrity of those responsible for applying them. He insisted on the need to respond to economic, social and institutional challenges in the spirit of the Constitution of July 25, 2022.
Warning against abuse and old collusion
The head of state also denounced those whom he accused of having “sold out” the interests of the country and tried to divide it, evoking former adversaries who had become allies, brought together according to him by political opportunism.
He referred to practices assimilated to “sharing the spoils”, in allusion to certain criminal legislation, while affirming that History would have already condemned those he describes as traitors. Kaïs Saïed affirmed that the State will not tolerate any abuse against citizens, nor any attempt to maneuver against national cohesion.
The President recalled that those responsible must act keeping in mind popular expectations, which he described as “legitimate” and demanding concrete results. This refocusing, according to him, must guide government action on a daily basis and at all hierarchical levels. The message targets both the administration and political institutions, in a context where the executive seeks to strengthen its decision-making control.
