The President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, received Thursday at the Palace of Carthage the Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, to take stock of the progress of hospital projects and the launch of the first digital hospital in Tunisia. This meeting comes as the Head of State calls for accelerating the completion of medical projects in several regions of the country.

Modernization of the health system

The “digital hospital” project was presented as a national first, intended to transform the health system using modern technologies.

This device will make it possible to send medical examinations remotely to establish diagnoses and prescriptions without traveling, particularly for the benefit of residents of rural and isolated areas.

According to the presidency press release, this model is part of the desire to build connected medicine that is accessible to all. President Saïed insisted that “the right to health is a natural human right” that must be guaranteed equally to all citizens.

Projects to be completed throughout the country

Kais Saïed urged the ministry to hasten the finalization of new hospital establishments in several cities, including Kairouan, Sbeitla, El Jem, Ghar Dimaou, Jemla, Makthar, Haffouz, Dahmani and Tala.

These projects, he recalled, must be protected against “cartels” and private interests who seek to delay their execution.

Towards a reform of the medical legal framework

The Head of State also called for an overhaul of the legal system governing the medical sector, which he considers “obsolete” and a source of “intolerable situations”. He stressed the need to guarantee the rights of medical, paramedical and worker personnel.

While welcoming the international reputation of Tunisian skills, Kais Saïed affirmed that several developed countries now call on doctors trained in Tunisia, and that the country is attracting more and more foreign students.
