This Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, chaired the commemorative ceremony of the 87th anniversary of the Martyrs ‘Day, in the Martyrs’ Carré, from Sijoumi, in the capital.
The ceremony began with the removal of a wreath of flowers and the recitation of Fatiha in memory of the martyrs. The president then praised the national flag, followed by three Salves de Canon.
The events of April 8 and 9, 1938 were a major turning point in the fight against French colonialism, preparing the country’s independence in 1956 and the proclamation of the Republic in 1957.
The ceremony brought together government officials, soldiers and civil society representatives.
