On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, during a meeting with the Minister of Commerce and Development of Exports, Samir Abid, President Kaïs Saïed underlined the need for Tunisia to diversify its export markets, notably in Africa, Asia and certain countries of South America, which expressed their desire to establish balanced trade relations with the country.
The president also addressed the issue of imports, saying that important sums in foreign currencies are used to import products that mainly benefit some importers and consumers. He denounced the commercial imbalance with certain countries, stressing that many imported products could be produced locally or are simply not necessary.
Kaïs Saïed then mentioned the distribution circuits of agricultural products, noting the difficulties encountered by farmers and consumers in the face of the rise in prices. He criticized the intermediaries that handle prices for speculative and monopolistic purposes.
The Head of State concluded by emphasizing the importance of increased control and information campaigns on a national scale to raise awareness of the need to reform commercial practices, in order to allow the country to write a new chapter of its economic development.
