Kaïs Saïed accuses former leaders of having managed the state “like loot”

By receiving the head of government at the Carthage Palace, President Kaïs Saïed reaffirmed his confidence in the ability of Tunisian youth to lead the country. He denounced the “wrong choices” of the past and warned against attempts to impose foreign agendas.

Kaïs Saïed received Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri at the Carthage palace, in the presence of the Minister of the Economy Samir Abdelhafidh and the Governor of the Central Bank Fethi Zouhair Nouri. The discussions focused on the financial balances of the State, the progress of the development plan and the role of the Central Bank in reviving the economy.

According to the presidency, the meeting served to reassess economic priorities in a context of persistent budgetary tension.

An indictment of past political practices

The head of state once again denounced what he considers to be the abuses which preceded his arrival in power. He accused former officials of having managed the state “like loot” and of having contracted heavy debts for which the Tunisian people are still paying the price without benefiting.

He also criticized those who, according to him, are trying to reintroduce their networks into public institutions, reminding as he does at every meeting that “no one is above the law.”

A youth called to come to the forefront

Kaïs Saïed insisted on the human potential of Tunisia, highlighting a youth that he judges ready to “soon take over”. He affirmed that this new generation will be able to break with the errors of the past and establish itself as an essential force in building the country.

The future, according to him, rests on abundant but still insufficiently exploited national resources.

Warning against external influences

The president criticized certain internal and external actors for wanting to impose foreign agendas on Tunisia and for nourishing a nostalgia for the protectorate and colonialism. He presented these pressures as a reaction to the sovereign choice of the Tunisian people to be free.

In this regard, he declared that if the accusation against him is that of defending the sovereignty of the country, he considers it “an honor”.
