On the occasion of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which are being held from October 14 to 18, 2025 in Washington, the Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, has increased bilateral meetings with officials of major international financial institutions.

During an interview with Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) group, the two parties confirmed their desire to strengthen the partnership and closely monitor ongoing programs and projects. Dr. Sidi Ould Tah assured that the AfDB would continue to support Tunisia in carrying out its development projects.

The minister also met Ludger Schuknecht, vice-president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), to examine the prospects and opportunities for financing basic infrastructure projects in Tunisia.

Strengthened cooperation with the IDB and the EBRD

A meeting with Dr. Mohamed Slimane Eljasser, president of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), provided an opportunity to take stock of the programs already financed and to explore the prospects for financial and technical cooperation within the framework of the five-year development plan 2026-2030. Dr. Eljasser reaffirmed the IDB’s availability to study Tunisian proposals for future projects.

Likewise, an interview with Matteo Patrone, vice-president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), highlighted neighborhood cooperation and support for Tunisia for public and private projects.

Finally, the minister met with Ethiops Tafara, vice president of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), to review the main financial and technical cooperation programs with the public and private sectors, and examine ways to further strengthen them.
