The Tunisian banking sector has been virtually paralyzed since Monday, November 3, 2025. At the call of the General Federation of Banks, Financial Institutions and Insurance Companies under the UGTT, agents are observing a two-day general strike.
From the early hours of the morning, many employees gathered in front of the UGTT headquarters in Tunis, brandishing flags and signs to demand the resumption of social dialogue with the Banking and Financial Council (CBF).
80% participation and a call for dialogue
Speaker on Jawhara FMAhmed Jaziri, secretary general of the federation, announced a participation rate of around 80%.
“All banking services are affected. This movement is a cry of warning. The agents are experiencing a situation of injustice and are even being pressured to prevent the strike,” he denounced.
The trade unionist clarified that the federation remained open to dialogue, affirming that a return to the negotiating table with the CBF could lead to the suspension of the movement.
But until now, no concrete signal has been given from the employers’ side, despite multiple calls for mediation addressed to the Presidency and the Ministry of Finance.
The Banking and Financial Council denounces an “unjustified” strike
The Banking and Financial Council (CBF), for its part, condemned the social movement, estimating in a press release published last Thursday that this strike “has no social or economic justification”.
The CBF warns that this work stoppage “harms the interests of citizens and businesses”, at a time when “the national economy needs stability and solidarity”.
The Council nevertheless reaffirms its commitment to apply the salary increases provided for by the 2026 Finance Law, as soon as the implementing decree is published in the Official Journal.
He underlines his commitment to improving purchasing power and working conditions, while calling for collective responsibility and respect for legal procedures.
