The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received, Friday August 8, 2025at the Palais de Carthage, the head of the government, Sara Zaâfrani Zenzri. This interview made it possible to take stock of several economic and social issues, while reaffirming principles of justice and transparency.

From the outset, Saïed spoke of a marking article published the December 13, 1978 In Scales By the late Mohamed Guelbi, entitled “The carnival”. He stressed that, if the author was still alive, he would today write “in the opposite sense”, denouncing inconsistency and persistent hypocrisy.

Attack on UGTT: political parties denounce a “dangerous development”

Defense of the UGTT: no to the historical amalgam

The president explained that the security forces protected the headquarters of the UGTT during recent demonstrations, that the demonstrators had no intention of break -in, and that it is unfair to compare these events to those of 2012.

“The people understood. The people have awakened … “, he said, assuring that citizens now perceive every detail, and that certain” coincidences “are not accident.

Social justice, memory and truth

Saïed paid tribute to historical figures of unionism and nationalism, including Farhat Hached and Tahar Haddad. He called for a rigorous accountability: “Neither privileges, nor impunity. We want the funds to return to the people, and that the work of national unity resumes.”

Also evoking his personal memories, the president mentioned the “Tuesday black” of January 3, 1984where his classmate, the martyr Fadhel Sassi, fell.

“Tunisia will remain standing … and we will act with the transparency of the victims, without turning around the pot”he concluded.

Finally: the story of the wolf

As a metaphor, Saïed closed his words with a story:

“Do not behave like the wolf that eats sheep. I speak to you in all sincerity, without going wrong, in the interest of the people.” This imagined wink highlights his call for a sincere and without pretense relationship between power and the nation.
