The secretary general of the Tunisian Union of Individual Taxis, Mohamed Ali Arfaoui, said in an interview with Mosaic that the taxi sector is ready to accept the rate which will be fixed by the competent authorities concerning the increase in the starting rate even if the increase is lower than the Union proposal, which is estimated at two dinars.
Arfaoui said that a meeting took place between the Union and the Director General of Earth Transport as well as the Minister of Transport’s advisor, where the Union presented his proposal pending the official decision of the competent authorities.
He stressed that the expected increase will be lower than the sum proposed by the Union, but it remains acceptable providing that the increase will be around 400 millimes, which will pass this rate to 1300 millimes against 900 millimes currently.
He also defended the Union’s proposal for this increase, justifying this request by the increase in prices of cars, insurance costs and spare parts, which increased the expenses of professionals.
