Tunisia is hosting for the first time the 20th periodic meeting of regional civil aviation security centers under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The work, which is being held in Hammamet from November 10 to 13, brings together more than 60 countries from five continents to debate current and future aviation security issues.

According to Aziza Seddik, director of the Regional Civil Aviation Safety and Security Training Center, the choice of Tunisia to host this event reflects ICAO’s renewed confidence in the Tunisian center, accredited since 2017, reports the TAP agency.

This international meeting also strengthens Tunisia’s reputation as a safe destination and a partner committed to the development of global aviation safety standards.

Technological innovations

Over four days, experts will look at recent developments in aviation security training, particularly through standardized training modules developed by ICAO and deployed in airlines, national authorities and airport operators.

Discussions will also focus on new security threats and challenges related to air transport, as well as emerging technologies intended to strengthen protection against acts of unlawful interference.

Strengthening global security

The meeting will close with the adoption of official recommendations which will be transmitted to the ICAO General Secretariat, in order to guide the next revisions of international aviation security standards.
