Buses to unclog saturated lines
As the 2025 start to school approaches, marked as every year by a massive increase in urban transport demand, the Tunisian authorities accelerate the upgrading of the park in the Grand Tunis. Saturday, July 12, the Transport Company of Tunis (TransTU) received a second tranche of 189 buses from China. These vehicles are added to the 111 already delivered in June as part of a contract with the Chinese manufacturer King Long.
The objective is clear: Strengthen the offer in the most populous areaswhere the bus lines are at the limit of saturation. Districts like Ettadhamen, Mnihla, Raoued, La Marsa or Ben Arous, which concentrate a significant part of some 3 million inhabitants of Grand Tuniswill be primarily targeted. The restarting of suspended lines due to the dilapidation of the equipment is also on the program.
Metro and suburbs: a call for tenders to modernize the heavy infrastructure
In addition to the purchase of buses, the Ministry of Transport launched a Call for tenders for the acquisition of 30 new metro trainswith modern technological specifications, as well as 14 to 18 trains for the Tunis – Marsa linewhose attendance continues to increase. The stakes are high: avoid saturation in September, while laying the foundations for a more reliable long -term network.
Minister Rachid Amri insists on a Complete preparation before school yearin order to guarantee comfort, regularity and safety in daily trips.
An overall strategy supported by Sino-Tunisian cooperation
The gradual delivery of 300 Chinese buses is part of a wider partnership with China, which already provides for a new order of 418 additional buses.
