Libyan security forces have intercepted a fuel smuggling network on the border with Tunisia.
The patrols under the management of the law application, attached to the Directorate General of Security Operations in Libya, recently defeated an attempted smuggling of fuel at the level of the Ras Jedir border post, on the Tunisian-Libyan border.
According to a press release from the Libyan security authorities, several vehicles registered in Libya and Tunisia, specially developed for illegal fuel transport, were seized. These vehicles were hidden in a site located not far from the border post and were equipped with non-compliant fuel tanks.
The security forces also discovered that one of the intercepted vehicles carried false license plates and included non -approved mechanical parts. The vehicle’s chassis number had been deleted, probably to blur the tracks and prevent its identification.
The authorities have entered the vehicles involved and took the necessary legal measures. The case was transferred to the competent services for the opening of an in -depth investigation.
The border post of Ras Jedir is regularly faced with smuggling attempts, in particular fuel, lucrative traffic which feeds an active parallel market on both sides of the border.
