The Criminal Chamber specializing in financial corruption cases of the Court of First Instance of Tunis delivered, on Monday, a heavy verdict against Taïeb Rached, former first president of the Court of Cassation, sentencing him to 30 years in prison.
In addition to Taïeb Rached, two businessmen, Nejib Ben Ismail and Fethi Jenayeh, were sentenced to 27 and 30 years in prison respectively. A dismissed magistrate also received a 20-year sentence, reports Mosaique fm.
These convictions come as part of a vast affair combining criminal conspiracy, money laundering, corruption, falsification and use of forgery, according to the indictment.
The four accused were referred to the Criminal Chamber by the Specialized Indictment Chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal, following an in-depth investigation into suspicious financial flows and illegal transactions.
