Former Minister and Diplomat Taher Sioud dies 87 years old

Tunisia has lost, today one of its most respected figures in the diplomatic, economic and sporting world. Taher Sioud, former minister and ambassador, died at the age of 87 in France, marking the end of an exceptional journey in the service of his country.

His death represents a great loss for the nation, which cries the disappearance of a man who contributed significantly to several spheres of Tunisian public life.

Taher Sioud has marked the history of Tunisian diplomacy by his many years of service. A graduate in economic sciences and law, he first proven himself in the economic field before fully engaging in Tunisian diplomacy.

He notably held the post of vice-government of the Central Bank of Tunisia, where he played a crucial role in the management of the country’s monetary and financial policy.

His experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led him to occupy several important functions. Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, he advanced Tunisian diplomacy before becoming Minister of Commerce from 2003 to 2005. It was during this period that he contributed to several reforms aimed at improving the trade relations of Tunisia on the international level.

One of the culminating points of Taher Sioud’s diplomatic career was his role as an ambassador of Tunisia to the United Arab Emirates, then in Belgium and in the countries of the Benelux from 1995 to 1998. These missions were an opportunity for him to strengthen bilateral relations between Tunisia and these strategic regions, and to promote the interests of his country on the international scene.

He was known for his professionalism, his rigor and his ability to establish solid and lasting relationships with his foreign counterparts. These qualities allowed it to represent Tunisia with dignity and efficiency worldwide.

In addition to his achievements in the diplomatic and economic field, Taher Sioud also had a deep passion for sport, and more particularly for football. This love for sport led him to play a decisive role in the development of football in Tunisia. He thus chaired the Tunisian Football Federation, where he contributed to the organization and management of national football, while supporting clubs and initiatives aimed at promoting sport in Tunisia.

His commitment to this field made him a very respected and appreciated personality of the actors of Tunisian football. Many clubs and sports associations remember his unwavering support for the development of this discipline, which is a source of pride and passion for the Tunisian people.

The disappearance of Taher Sioud leaves a deep void, not only in diplomatic and economic spheres, but also in the world of Tunisian sport. A man of convictions and commitment, he has always worked in compliance with the country’s values ​​and the best interests.

His funeral will be a solemn moment to pay tribute to a man who has devoted his life to the service of Tunisia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as senior government officials, expressed their sadness and presented their condolences to the deceased family.

Political and economic figures from the region, as well as actors in Tunisian sport, have also expressed their gratitude for the work accomplished by Taher Sioud over his career.
