The criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption affairs at the Tunis court of appeal refused the request for the release of the former Minister of the Environment, Chokri Belhassen, as well as the ex-deputy of the dissolved parliament, Mohamed Salah Latifi.
During a recent hearing, the jurisdiction ruled on their continued detention and set a new hearing on April 10 to continue examining the file. This decision comes within the framework of a financial corruption case in which the two accused are involved.
The judicial authorities thus continue the investigation of the file, while the lawyers of the accused had filed a request for provisional liberation. However, the court of appeal judged that the elements of the file did not allow access to this request, thus extending their detention pending the next stage of the trial.
