The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior paid tribute, on Saturday, to security agent Marouane Kadri, who died following serious injuries suffered during the anti-terrorist operation carried out the same morning in Feriana, in the governorate of Kasserine.
In a statement, the ministry praised the agent’s sacrifice, stressing that he had chosen, alongside his colleagues, to defend the homeland and the security of Tunisians so that they could live “in peace and serenity”. The official text affirms that the intervention made it possible to foil a premeditated terrorist crime aimed at sowing disorder and chaos, reiterating that Tunisia will remain invulnerable.
A preventive operation near the weekly market
According to the authorities, security units intervened on Saturday morning as part of a preventive action, after tracking down a group of extremist elements. The operation took place near the Feriana weekly market. It led to the neutralization of Seddik Laabidi, presented as a dangerous terrorist element, as well as the arrest of his accomplice.
A security guard was seriously injured during the intervention and evacuated to a hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The ministry then announced his death, paying tribute to his commitment and that of all the mobilized forces.
Investigations continue
The Interior Ministry indicated that the security operation is continuing in order to elucidate all the circumstances of this attempted attack and to identify possible ramifications. The authorities reaffirm their vigilance in the face of the terrorist threat, particularly in border areas and sensitive regions of the country.
