The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs at the Tunis court of first instance rejected, this Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the request for the release of the businessman Fathi Damak. His trial, linked to the so -called “surveillance and assassination planning cell”, has been postponed to November 18.
Fathi Damak is prosecuted alongside former security executives in a case on the alleged constitution of a cell responsible for monitoring, investigating and planning assassinations aimed at judges, politicians and journalists.
Refusal of release
During the hearing on Tuesday, the defendant asked for the release of Fathi Damak as well as a postponement of the trial. The criminal chamber decided to maintain the detention of the businessman and to return the examination of the case to November 18, 2025.
Recall that on February 11, the criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs at the Tunis court of first instance had examined a case linked to the assassination file, known as the “surveillance and planning cell”.
Fathi Dammak had been sentenced, on July 3, 2014, to two years in prison suspended for criminal association in order to plan assaults against people. A verdict pronounced in the case of the commanded assassinations. Former security people would also be involved in this case.
