The price of a car in Tunisia could soon be divided by two for many citizens. It is the promise of an ambitious bill, Recently deposited by MP Mohamed Ziad Maher and around twenty colleagues in the Assembly of People of the People. The objective? Allow Tunisians to acquire a vehicle at its factory price, that is to say without heavy customs taxes and consumer rights, and with VAT reduced to only 7 %. What transform a vehicle displayed at 75,000 dinars into a potential purchase at only 35,000 dinars.

Who can make this dream come true?

It is not an opportunity for everyone, but an exceptional and unique advantage. The bill, currently examined by the finance committee, targets specific beneficiaries. THE Singles over 30 are targeted, as are heads of family (provided that no member of their home has already taken advantage of this measure). An income ceiling is also planned: up to 18 times the Smig for couples and 12 times for singles. In addition, the vehicles concerned must not have more than 10 years old.

An important detail: a priority will be granted to families with a member with disabilitiesas long as the latter has not already benefited from a similar advantage for a suitable vehicle. It is a measure that highlights the desire to expand access to mobility to the most vulnerable.

More than a car, a national issue

Beyond the obvious financial boon, this initiative continues a Double strategic objective According to MP Maher. Faced with the flight prices of cars, which make them inaccessible for a large segment of the population, this proposal aims first restore purchasing power to citizens.

But the ambition goes further. It is also an effort to Encourage young people and skills to stay in Tunisia. By offering a concrete and significant advantage, the initiators of the project hope to slow down the flight of talents and help stabilize the country’s living forces. This is an approach that is part of a context where vehicle acquisition costs have become a real obstacle for many Tunisian households.

A bill aims to extend the FCR regime to Tunisians residing in Tunisia

And after?

The bill is now on the table of the finance committee. Discussions should engage after the parliamentary break, at the same time as examining the finance law. The dream of an accessible car is palpable for many Tunisians, and the wait is great as to the outcome of this legislative project.

Do you think that this bill will be adopted and will have a significant impact on the Tunisian automotive market?
