What really devotes the Tunisian his free time? An opinion survey by Emrhod Consulting reveals a striking contrast: every day, a Tunisian spends an average of 2 hours on Facebook, against barely 10 minutes devoted to reading a book.
Intervened in the program “Ahla Sbeh”, Fathi Ben Abdallah, representative of Emrhod Consulting, said that this study is part of the seventh wave of the barometer “Promoter of the book and the Tunisian reader”, launched in 2015.
Carried out by telephone between April 29 and May 6, the survey focused on a representative sample of 950 people aged 18 and over, covering both urban and rural areas, with a margin of error of 3.2 %.
These figures reveal not only the hegemony of social networks in the daily life of Tunisians, but also the alarming decline in reading. At the rate of 120 minutes of scroll against 10 of reading, it seems that the algorithm has replaced the novelist, and that the thumbs have taken over from the eyes.
