Tunisian justice has decided to postpone the examination of the case concerning the escape of five terrorist detainees from the Mornaguia civil prison, while rejecting the release requests filed for certain defendants. The next hearing is set for January 9, 2026.
During the session of Friday, December 19, 2025, the defendants appeared by videoconference from the Mornagui civil prison before the criminal chamber specializing in terrorism cases at the Court of First Instance of Tunis.
Lawyers presented new information and requested a postponement of the hearing to prepare defenses for their clients. The chamber accepted the postponement, setting the next hearing for January 9, 2026.
Rejection of requests for release
At the same time, requests for provisional release submitted for certain defendants were refused by the courts, confirming the seriousness of the accusations and the dangerous nature of the detainees involved in the escape.
The case concerns five prisoners classified as high-risk terrorists, who escaped from the Mornaguia civil prison. This escape had raised serious concerns about the security of penitentiary establishments and the potential threat to public order.
