Tunisia experiences a marked withdrawal of its national energy production, according to the report on the energy situation published by the National Energy Observatory and Mines on September 12, 2025. The production of crude oil and natural gas accuses a respective decrease of 10% and 9% compared to the same period last year.

Oil: national production in decline

National production of crude oil settled at 724 kilotonnes (KT) at the end of July 2025, that is 10% less that at the end of July 2024. The daily average went from 29.6 thousand barrels/day at 26.3 thousand barrels/day.

The drop mainly affects the main fields:

  • Nawara: -48%
  • Ashtart: -14%
  • Barka: -85%
  • El Hajeb/Guebiba: -21%
  • Gherib: -22%
  • Halk El Manzel: -13%
  • Hasdrubal: -9%
  • Sidi Marzoug: -2%

Conversely, certain fields have seen their production increase:

  • Ezzaouia: +69%
  • Gremda/El Ain: +223%
  • DST: +65%
  • MLD: +10%
  • Bir Ben Tartar: +9%

These variations reflect heterogeneous performance depending on the deposits and maintenance or operating operations.

Natural gas: increased resources and increased dependence

THE natural gas resources (national production + tax package) decreased by 9%stretching to 1175 KTEP-PCI.

The national dry commercial gas production fell by 6%, with decreases in the main fields:

  • Hasdrubal: -13%
  • Nawara: -28%
  • Miskar: -4%

Conversely, the South commercial gas records an increase of 6%.

Returities and supply

  • There Algerian gas fee decreased by 13%, standing at 502 KTEP-PCI, with a distribution entirely ceded to the Steg in July 2025.
  • An exceeding of STEG samples from 234 million m³ is being regularized.
  • THE Algerian gas purchases increased by 21%, going to 1608 KTEP-PCI.

The total national supply of natural gas reached 2879 KTEPwith a notable evolution of the distribution by source:

  • Share of national gas: drop from 27% to 23%
  • Share of the fee sold to the STEG: drop from 22% to 21%
  • Share of Algerian gas purchases: increase from 51% to 56%

These figures highlight unot increasingly dependent on importsin particular in Algerian gas, a heterogeneous national energy performancewith certain fields in strong progression but others in net decline and Regularization and fees for feesespecially for the STEG and the state.
