Disinformation: the Ministry of the Interior warns and opens up prosecution

The Ministry of the Interior warns against the spread of false information on social networks. Some suspect pages broadcast rumors aimed at discrediting security forces and disrupting public opinion.

Denials and current prosecution

According to the ministry, these contents come from groups known for their hostility towards institutions. Their objective would be to harm the action of field units and sow disorder, despite the recently deployed efforts to strengthen security.

These pages have no connection with official services. To cope with it, the authorities began, in coordination with justice, prosecution against the authors, whether they are in Tunisia or abroad.

The ministry affirms that these campaigns constitute a direct threat to the State and its institutions. He calls on citizens to be vigilant and not relaying unaccounts.

Past of disinformation in Tunisia

This phenomenon is not new. In April 2025, the national security denied a rumor on an alleged immolation before a police station. The author admitted having invented this story to provoke a scandal. In 2023, the National Guard also had to react after the publication of false information about it.

On several occasions, campaigns have targeted security officials through false accounts broadcasting manufactured content. These maneuvers aimed to erode confidence in institutions.

It should be recalled that in July 2024, the Ministry of Justice had warned that anyone who has led malicious campaigns, widespread rumors or lies against state institutions or its agents would be prosecuted legally. The proceedings had to apply both in Tunisia and abroad. The ministry also reaffirmed its confidence in its staff and its commitment to enforce the law without exception.
