The Tunisian Ministry of Commerce is preparing an ambitious program aimed at digitizing the distribution system for subsidized products, in order to rationalize their use and better orient them towards real beneficiaries.
This was indicated by Jamal Fahem, head of the budget management unit by objectives within the Ministry of Commerce and Development of Exports.
Speaking Friday April 11, 2025 on national radio waves, Jamal Fahem explained that this program is based on the digitalization of information systems relating to basic necessities benefiting from subsidies.
In particular, it will be a question of following their use closely in order to put an end to the abuses and dysfunctions noted.
The manager said that almost 96 % of the budget of the Ministry of Commerce is devoted to the subsidy of basic products such as milk, wheat and oil, the equivalent of 3,800 million Tunisian dinars.
Jamal Fahem also stressed the importance of citizen vigilance. He invited Tunisians to report any exceeding or abuse, recalling that several offenses have already been detected, in particular the fraudulent use of subsidized products in the professional and industrial sectors – a diversion that harms the effectiveness of the support system for the most vulnerable households.
