Several hundred people gathered today in Tunis to express their support for the lawyer and former magistrate Ahmed Souab, currently detained.
The demonstration brought together political figures of various horizons, human rights activists and members of civil society.
The demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the immediate release of Me Souab and at the end of the prosecution against political opponents. Prucars sported messages such as “Freedom for Ahmed Souab” and “No to the criminalization of opinion”.
Ahmed Souab, former judge at the administrative court and committed lawyer, is recognized for his commitment to the independence of justice and human rights.
His arrest has aroused a strong reaction from civil society and political parties, which see it as an attack on freedom of expression and an attempted intimidation of critical voices.
Order Monday, April 21 and then placed in police custody, Ahmed Souab was the subject of a warrant of deposit issued on April 23 by the investigating judge with the judicial center to combat terrorism after his appearance within the said judicial center within the framework of an investigation open to him, in connection with his critical public declarations with regard to the criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs.
