The criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption cases at the Court of Appeal confirmed the conviction of the former deputy of the dissolved Parliament and ex-president of the Avenir Sportif football club of Soliman, Walid Jalled, while reducing the prison sentence handed down against him from six to four years.
The facts date back to February 2023, when the investigating judge of the economic and financial judicial center issued a committal warrant against Walid Jalled. He was then the subject of prosecution for charges related to money laundering and treason.
A first conviction
After his referral to the criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption cases of the court of first instance of Tunis, Walid Jalled was sentenced to six years in prison with financial fines. The defense appealed this decision.
Seized of the case, the Court of Appeal of Tunis decided to uphold the conviction while reducing the corporal sanction, reducing it to four years of imprisonment, thus confirming the criminal responsibility of the former deputy in this case.
