Five individuals, including four agents from the Taher Sfar university hospital in Mahdia and a merchant, were placed in pre -trial detention as part of a case of embezzlement of public goods.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the suspects, which have been the subject of a warrant, are accused of having formed in a group in order to undermine people and property. They are also prosecuted for the misappropriation of equipment by a public agent, an offense punishable by heavy sanctions, Diwan FM yesterday reported.
The case broke out following redevelopment work within the hospital establishment. Investigators discovered that almost half a copper-tonne, from the old hospital networks, had been illegally recovered and sold to a second-hand object merchant.
The scandal does not stop there. During an auction of medical beds organized recently by the hospital, management noted a significant lack in the initially planned stock. The internal audit revealed that the defendants had also appropriated, without authorization, 50 used medical beds.
A judicial investigation is underway to shed light on the precise responsibilities of each defendant and to measure the exact magnitude of the diversions.
