The Criminal Chamber specializing in terrorist cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance has decided to postpone the examination of the case against former prosecutor Béchir Akremi, Habib Ellouz and other defendants. The case is linked to the assassination of Chokri Belaïd.
The specialized court ordered the postponement of the trial brought against Béchir Akremi, dismissed public prosecutor, the leader of the Ennahdha movement Habib Ellouz, as well as other defendants. The examination of the file was adjourned to a later date.
Terrorist accusations
The accused are being prosecuted for crimes classified as terrorist in connection with the case of the assassination of the martyr Chokri Belaïd, an emblematic figure of the Tunisian left, killed on February 6, 2013. The case is part of the judicial investigations relating to the criminal responsibilities surrounding this political assassination.
The postponement of the hearing was motivated by a request made by the Chokri Belaïd defense collective. The lawyers requested a delay in order to be able to file and present the requests relating to the civil action.
