Relations between Tunisia and China are crossing a new course. The Chinese Ambassador to Tunis, Wan Li, announced on May 1, 2025 that the two countries are engaged in advanced discussions for the signing of a global partnership agreement.
This future framework agreement, based on mutual dialogue and the balance of interests, aims to intensify bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, industry, technology, health and infrastructure.
In an interview with Mosaic FM, the ambassador underlined China’s commitment to support the Tunisian economy, especially through the opening of its market to Tunisian agricultural products. This effort is part of a desire to reduce the commercial imbalance between the two countries and to strengthen Tunisian exports to the Chinese market.
Wan Li has also highlighted the growing interest of Chinese companies for Tunisia, attracted by its political stability, its strategic geographic position at the heart of the Mediterranean, as well as the availability of qualified local skills.
He recalled that Chinese exports to Tunisia, mainly composed of mechanical and electronic products with high added value, constitute an important lever to support Tunisian industrialization.
The dynamism of the Sino-Tunisian partnership is also illustrated through several concrete projects in progress. Among them, the future tumor treatment center at Gabès hospital, designed by a team of Chinese experts, or the feasibility study for the renovation of the El Menzah stadium, for which Chinese specialists will soon be deployed in Tunisia.
In addition, the ambassador confirmed the progress of the work of the new Bizerte mobile bridge, considered a strategic project for regional development. He assured that the deadlines set will be met and that the Chinese company in charge of the site applies the required quality standards. The necessary materials have already been delivered and the project advances according to the agreed calendar.
This dynamic is part of the continuity of bilateral relations reinforced after the visit of the Kais Saied in China last year, which marked a strategic turning point in relations between the two countries.
Economy, education, innovation and culture: so many areas in which China and Tunisia intend to build sustainable cooperation, based on a balanced and respectful partnership.
