Chaima Issa, member of the National Salvation Front, was arrested on Saturday November 29, 2025 during a demonstration in defense of freedoms in Tunis.
According to several witnesses present, plainclothes agents quickly apprehended her in the middle of the crowd, causing strong emotion among the participants.
This arrest immediately aroused the indignation of the demonstrators, who denounced a new stage in the repression of dissident voices.
As a reminder, Chaima Issa was already arrested on February 22, 2023 and prosecuted before a military court for charges related to “state security”. On December 13, 2023, she was sentenced to one year in prison for “insulting the head of state”, “inciting the military to disobedience” and “spreading rumors”, particularly through the media. In October 2024, his sentence was reduced to six months in prison by the military appeals court.
The arrest of November 29, 2025 comes as part of the execution of a sentence – a 20-year prison sentence – recently handed down in the context of a vast case targeting political opponents.
