The city of Bizerte is preparing to welcome, from September 12 to 13, 2025, the 8ᵉ edition of the World Forum of the Sea. Placed under the theme “From Nice to Bizerte: How is the Mediterranean?” “, This international meeting will bring together researchers, decision -makers, NGOs and economic actors to draw up an inventory of the Mediterranean after the 3ᵉ United Nations Ocean conference held last June.
The Global Mer-Bizerte Forum, the first international event devoted to the sea in the wake of the UN Ocean Conference, aims to bring together scientists, political leaders, international institutions, private actors and representatives of civil society.
At the heart of exchanges: maritime governance, the blue economy, the fight against pollution and the adaptation of the Mediterranean in the face of climate change.
Partnerships and initiatives announced
The 2025 edition will be marked by the signing of a Franco-Tunisian partnership dedicated to the preservation of the sea herbaries in Posidonia. This program will associate WWF North Africa, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Tunisian Ministry of the Environment.
Several presentations are also planned, notably around the “Starfish” barometer, the first annual bulletin on the state of health of the ocean, the European pact and the alliance of regions and coastal cities.
In addition to conferences, the forum will highlight various European and Mediterranean programs devoted to the regenerative blue economy. Participants will also discover the documentary WAO – Women Actions for the Ocean, which highlights women’s engagement for ocean protection.
From Nice to Bizerte
This 8ᵉ edition is a continuation of the United Nations Ocean Conference organized in Nice in June 2025. It aims to translate major international commitments into concrete actions at the Mediterranean scale, in a region strongly exposed to the effects of climate change and human pressures.
