China confirms the progress of its projects in Tunisia: the Bizerte bridge should be ready for operation in mid-2027, while a Chinese technical team intervened in Gabès to support efforts to modernize the chemical complex and the fight against pollution, declared the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, in an interview with the TAP agency.
The Bizerte bridge enters a decisive phase
The ambassador indicated that 14% of the foundation work of the future Bizerte bridge has already been completed.
Entrusted to the company Sichuan Road and Bridge following an international call for tenders, the project is progressing in accordance with the schedule set with the Tunisian authorities, for commissioning planned for the second half of 2027.
Drilling work began last July, and several shipments of Chinese equipment and materials have arrived at the site in recent months.
According to the diplomat, this project constitutes “a model of international cooperation”, mobilizing both Tunisian engineers and Chinese experts.
A Chinese technical mission to Gabès to diagnose pollution
At the same time, China is providing technical support for the modernization of the Gabès chemical complex.
A specialized team was dispatched this week to assess environmental conditions and propose solutions for treating harmful emissions, in response to a request from the Tunisian government.
“The Tunisian state has requested help from China to modernize production units and reduce harmful gases,” explained Wan Li, recalling that China itself experienced serious episodes of industrial pollution before embarking on its green transition.
The diplomat recalled China’s environmental commitments: reduction of carbon emissions before 2030, carbon neutrality before 2060, and 11.6% reduction in energy consumption per unit of GDP between 2021 and 2024.
This progress, according to him, demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile industrial development and environmental protection.
