The General Federation of Basic Education has confirmed the maintenance of the sectoral strike scheduled for this Tuesday, October 7, in the absence of an official invitation from the Ministry of Education or that of social affairs. According to his deputy secretary general, Iqbal Azzabi, no reconciliation meeting has been scheduled, despite six months of waiting.
In a statement to the TAP agency, Azzabi insisted on the determination of teachers to exercise their right to strike “until the satisfaction of their legitimate demands”. In accordance with the methods arrested, teachers will go to their posts in the morning before joining the regional UGTT unions for protest gatherings.
Deed letter claims
The Federation requires, among other things, the improvement in the material situation of teachers, the revision of the system of promotions and bonuses, as well as the implementation of a reform plan for the educational sector, judged in crisis “both structural and educational”. These demands were already included in the professional motion published on August 1.
A sectoral administrative commission will meet at the end of the strike day to define the next stages of the movement. For the time being, the unions denounce a blockage of social dialogue and a disengagement from the ministry in the face of the expectations of a teaching staff in search of recognition and stability.
