The establishment of the automobile industry in Tunisia continues to expand. Tuesday, December 2, the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, kicked off work on the fifth industrial unit of the Korean group Yura Corporation in the Kairouan 2 industrial zone.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the region’s governor, Dhaker Bergaoui, the South Korean ambassador in Tunis, Lea Tae Wonfrom the group’s CEO, Park Dongilas well as the general manager of the Tunisian subsidiary, Kim Jong Gu.

The minister underlined the strategic importance of this project for the region and for the country. She recalled that the automotive components sector is experiencing sustained growth, attracting investments with high added value and strong technological content. The objective: to strengthen Tunisia’s place as an essential international platform in this area.

Since its establishment in 2007, Yura Corporation has chosen Tunisia to develop four industrial units, benefiting from a qualified workforce and suitable infrastructure. A sixth unit is also planned by 2026, still in the governorate of Kairouan.

CEO Park Dongil insisted on the strategic role of Tunisia, which according to him constitutes a bridge between Europe and North Africa, an ideal positioning for the automobile industry. He also praised the professionalism of Tunisian skills, capable of producing automotive harnesses according to the highest international standards. The new project will rely on cutting-edge technologies and local expertise.

Around 8,500 positions

The future unit, dedicated to the manufacture of automotive cables for major global brands, represents an investment of 50 million dinars and should create more than 2,000 direct jobs. In the longer term, Yura plans to reach around 8,500 positions across all of its sites in Kairouan.

Founded in 1995 in South Korea, Yura Corporation is today present in 15 countries through 22 industrial units, confirming its status as a global player in the design and production of electronic and control systems for automobiles.
