Parliament adopted, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the additional article authorizing the opening of foreign currency accounts for Tunisians residing in the country, with 69 votes in favor, against 17 oppositions and 17 abstentions. A decision considered decisive for many young people active in digital professions and online work.
Questioned by Mosaïque, MP Yassine Mami underlined the importance of this measure, which according to him responds to a growing demand from young people working via international platforms such as PayPal. He recalls that the latter have been facing administrative and banking blockages for years preventing them from legally receiving their payments from abroad.
According to Mami, the possibility of opening foreign currency accounts will now allow beneficiaries to directly receive their income in foreign currency, before converting it into dinar if necessary. He believes that this financial freedom will strengthen their autonomy, facilitate private initiative and encourage the integration of these activities into a clearer legal framework.
National digital economy
The MP also highlights the impact of this measure on the national digital economy, by allowing young freelancers and content creators to invest their income in their projects, without the obstacles which hitherto hindered their progress.
For Mami, this decision reflects the desire to support new forms of employment born from technological development, while aligning Tunisia with international standards in the field of digital services and remote working.
