The examination on appeal of the case involving Noureddine Bhiri, former Minister of Justice and figurehead of the Ennahdha movement, was postponed to April 15 by the criminal chamber at the Tunis court of appeal.
This additional period was granted pending the decision concerning the request for the challenge made by the lawyers of Bhiri against the president of the chamber in charge of the file. A defense member confirmed this information, adding that this request could impact the progress of the trial.
At first instance, the Tunis court of first instance had sentenced him to ten years in prison. This sentence followed serious accusations, in particular the alleged organization of an attack aimed at modifying the structure of the State, the incentive to clashes between citizens and the provocation of disorders nationwide.
These proceedings are part of its presumed role during these events and the particularly tense political context of the time. Contesting these accusations, Noureddine Bhiri called on his conviction. He firmly rejects the charges held against him.
As a reminder, a deposit warrant had been issued against him on February 14, 2023. The former minister was also involved in other major files, including a conspiracy against national security and another linked to Jilani Daboussi.
