The Basic and Secondary Education Unions of Grand Tunis decided to observe a sit-in Thursday, August 28, 2025 before the Ministry of Education. This action intervenes at the call of the mixed sectoral committee, which today gathered at the headquarters of the UGTT, to denounce a blockage of social dialogue and defend the professional demands of teachers.
Announced mobilization
Ikbal Azzabi, deputy secretary general of the General Union of Basic Education, said in a statement today to the TAP agency, that:
“The demonstration scheduled for next Thursday comes in a context qualified as” violation of union rights and blocking dialogue and negotiations with the Ministry of Education on the professional and material demands of teachers “.
The mixed sectoral commission (Tunis, Ariana, Ben Arous, Manouba) calls for a large mobilization of its union structures.
Towards a strike in October
This first protest action precedes a sectoral strike scheduled for October 7. According to Azzabi, the decision was made to accentuate the pressure on the Ministry of Education so that it engages serious negotiations.
The claims
Among the main demands are the regularization of the directors’ movement, judged not in accordance with legal rules; the opening of joint negotiations between the General Federation of Basic Education and the Ministry; regulations for the situation of teachers classified in the A3 scale; and the increase in wages.
