An evolving partnership

On a visit to Madrid on March 27, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, met his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, to strengthen relations between Tunisia and Spain.

The two officials have reaffirmed their commitment to consolidate historical cooperation based on common trust and interests. Mohamed Ali Nafti transmitted the greetings of President Kaïs Saïed to King Felipe VI, stressing the desire to give new impetus to bilateral relations. To mark this dynamic, he invited his counterpart to Tunisia in October, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Tuniso-Spanish Treaty Signed in 1995.

Economically, Tunisia and Spain display growing exchanges. Madrid is today one of the main business partners in Tunis and a major investor in several sectors. The two ministers have agreed to strengthen this dynamic, by focusing on strategic areas such as renewable energies and information technology.

Tourism has also been at the heart of the discussions. Thanks to better aerial connectivity and the growing interest of Spanish travelers for Tunisia, the trend is upwards. The objective is to amplify this flow and promote new Spanish investments in the tourism industry.

Internationally, discussions focused on stability in the Mediterranean and migration challenges. Spain, engaged in a strategy for Africa (2025-2028), wishes to strengthen its cooperation with Tunisia on these questions. The two ministers also discussed the situation in Gaza, sharing a common position in favor of respect for the rights of the Palestinians.

In short, this visit illustrates a clear will of the two countries to expand their partnership, by focusing on concrete projects and a common vision for the future.
