Tunisian activist Ali Kanis, a member of the Freedom Flotilla intended to break the blockade of Gaza, arrived in Tunis on Monday, from Jordan, after being expelled by the Israeli authorities.

Upon his arrival at Tunis-Carthage airport, Ali Kanis called for “remain focused on what is happening in Gaza,” stressing that more than 10,000 Palestinians, including more than 400 children, are currently detained in Israeli prisons. “We must continue to support Gaza and the resistance,” he told the press.

The Tunisian activist was arrested on October 8 in international waters by the forces of the Israeli occupation army, while he was on board the ship Al-Dhamir (“The Conscience”), one of the boats of the Freedom Flotilla. This international initiative aimed to open a humanitarian maritime corridor to the besieged Gaza Strip.

After several days of detention, Ali Kanis was deported on Sunday to Jordan via the Al-Karama border post, where he was welcomed by a representative of Tunisian diplomacy. He then underwent medical examinations in a Jordanian hospital before returning to Tunisia.

The Freedom Flotilla, made up of activists from different countries, returned to sea in early October to try to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Its interception by the Israeli navy sparked a large wave of international condemnation, with several NGOs denouncing a violation of maritime law and human rights.
