Employees in the agri-food and commerce sectors are heading towards a general sectoral strike announced for December 10.
The decision, taken at the meeting of the sectoral administrative commission on November 13, is part of a climate of social tension maintained for several weeks.
No openness to dialogue
According to Mohamed Barkati, interim secretary general of the General Federation of Food Industry, Tourism and Commerce, no steps have been taken by the authorities or the employers’ party to summon the unions to the negotiating table.
He asserts on the columns ofEchaâb Newspress organ of the UGTT, that, in the absence of constructive exchanges, workers believe that the strike constitutes today the only way to defend their right to a salary increase.
Mobilization remains total in the professional structures concerned. Activists and members of the trade union center consider that the absence of social dialogue justifies a move to action.
Preparations are intensifying within the regional unions, where staff assemblies are held one after the other to ensure massive support for the movement.
