Tunisia consolidates its position in aeronautics
The aeronautical components sector continues to establish itself as a strategic pillar of Tunisian industry.
Thursday, November 13, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, received in Tunis Stefania Sonia Dallali, president of the Tunisian aeronautics and space industries group (GITAS), and Frédéric Parisot, general director of the French aeronautics and space industries group (GIFAS), visiting on the occasion of the GITAS general assembly.
The interview focused on the prospects for partnership and investment in a sector which attracts a growing number of international players, thanks to local know-how and the country’s logistical stability.
The minister recalled that aeronautics is among the sectors with high technological content, capable of strengthening the competitiveness of the Tunisian industrial fabric.
He affirmed the government’s desire to create an environment favorable to investment, by focusing in particular on specialized training, logistics and support for investors.
The ministry’s structures, he specified, work in coordination with the other departments concerned to support foreign companies, particularly French, which wish to establish or expand their activities in Tunisia.
This cooperation is a continuation of a constructive partnership between GITAS and GIFAS, which aims to strengthen technological exchanges and the upscaling of Tunisian production.
Towards a regional aeronautics hub
For their part, Stefania Sonia Dallali and Frédéric Parisot welcomed the rapid development of the sector in Tunisia, which is now establishing itself as a regional reference center in the manufacturing of aeronautical components.
They underlined the need to work in a concerted manner between public institutions, professional groups and industrialists in order to build shared action plans to strengthen competitiveness, the training of local skills and the creation of added value throughout the production chain.
Building on long-standing industrial cooperation with France, the Tunisian aeronautics sector today has more than 80 companies, employing several thousand technicians and engineers.
The meeting between GITAS and GIFAS confirms the common desire to continue this dynamic, by transforming Tunisia into a regional platform for aeronautical integration and innovation serving the African and European markets.
