The National Council of the Order of Physicians announced that it had initiated disciplinary measures against several practitioners for having distributed advertising content on social networks, in violation of the Code of Medical Ethics. The institution warns of a growing drift in online medical marketing.
In a press release published this Wednesday, the Order said it was “deeply concerned” by the proliferation of promotional content from doctors on digital platforms. He recalls that any medical advertising, direct or indirect, remains strictly prohibited by Tunisian regulations.
The violations noted concern sponsored publications, promotional videos, patient testimonials and even collaborations with influencers, all practices deemed contrary to professional ethics.
Call to order and disciplinary sanctions
The Order of Physicians urged all practitioners to immediately remove all advertising content distributed online and to comply with the Charter of Professional Ethics relating to the use of the web and digital media.
Several disciplinary procedures are already underway, according to the press release. Doctors found guilty of repeated or serious offenses risk sanctions up to and including removal from the Order’s roll.
The institution insists on the need to preserve the dignity of the medical profession and the trust of the public. It affirms its commitment to ensuring respect for the fundamental principles of ethics, recalling that medicine cannot be assimilated to a commercial activity.
The Order concludes by reaffirming its mission: to guarantee respect for medical ethics, protect patients and maintain the integrity of the profession in a rapidly expanding digital environment.
