The criminal chamber of the Tunis court of first instance decided this Thursday to deliberate the case between the president of the Destourien Libre (PDL) party, ABIR Moussi, to the independent higher body for the elections (ISIE). The verdict will be rendered on a later date.
ABIR Moussi appeared this morning in front of the criminal chamber, as part of a complaint against it by the ISIA following critical media statements with regard to the legislative electoral process of December 17, 2022.
These remarks, made at a press conference in December 2022, are considered by ISIA as infringing its independence and disturbing public order. The case is educated under article 24 of Decree-law n ° 54 relating to offenses related to information and communication systems.
During the hearing on Thursday, the lawyer committed to defend ABIR Moussi announced his withdrawal, invoking a situation of “illegal detention” of his client, in his terms reported by Mosaique FM.
He thus joined the initial defense team which had decided, for several months, not to follow the legal proceedings in the various cases targeting the president of the PDL. The criminal chamber therefore took note of this withdrawal and decided to decide later.
During a previous hearing last May, the defense also boycotted the debates, while Sara Moussi herself refused to respond to justice, qualifying procedures against “unconstitutional” and contrary to international conventions.
ABIR Moussi has been detained since October 3, 2023. She faces several other things in justice, including two also initiated by the ISIA.
