The Criminal Chamber of the Court of First Instance of Tunis has placed under advisement the case targeting the president of the Free Destourian Party, Abir Moussi, and the activist Meriem Sassi.
The two officials are being prosecuted in the case of the registry office of the Presidency of the Republic. Abir Moussi appeared detained, Sassi free, before the Court began the interrogations and reserved its judgment.
Interrogations and hearing incident
During this Friday’s hearing, the Criminal Chamber questioned Meriem Sassi, who answered the court’s questions. Abir Moussi, for her part, chose not to be heard, formally refusing to answer the judge’s questions, reports Mosaique fm.
At the end of the interventions and findings in the courtroom, the Court decided to put the case under advisement. The verdict will be pronounced at the end of the deliberations, on a date that the court has yet to specify.
The case, linked to the registry of the Presidency of the Republic, is part of a series of prosecutions which have targeted the figure of the Free Destourian Party for several months. Previous legal steps had already sparked tensions between the defense, the authorities and party supporters.
