A drama shook the Tunisian community in Italy. According to the former deputy residing in Italy, Majdi Karbai, a young Tunisian known as Danilo Riahi17 years old, died in hospital after trying to commit suicide in an Italian prison located in the Treviso region.
According to Karbai’s testimony, published on Facebookthe young man was allegedly found in his cell, on the night of Sunday to Monday, hanged using jeans pants. The Italian authorities indicate that the teenager had been arrested a few days earlier in Vicenza.
Alerted in time, the guards and a doctor of the establishment had managed to revive him, allowing his emergency transfer to the hospital. Placed under medical care in intensive care, Danilo Riahi did not survive: he died less than 48 hours after the incident, despite the efforts of the medical profession.
The exact circumstances of his arrest and his detention are still vague. This death raises new questions about the conditions of detention of minors in Italy and on psychological support in penitentiary establishments.
Relatives of the deceased and members of the Tunisian community are demanding clarification and, if necessary, the opening of an independent investigation.
