The Republican Party has strongly criticized the bill presented to the American Congress under the title “Restore democracy in Tunisia”describing it as “blatant attack on national sovereignty and unacceptable interference in our internal affairs”.
In a statement, the party said that this text “once again reveals the American discourse, which claims to defend democracy and human rights, while its history is punctuated by support for tyranny and repression of peoples”.
The Republican Party also stressed that “the only way to protect Tunisia from foreign interference lies in national unity through the launch of an inclusive dialogue bringing together all political, social and civil forces, as well as a real national reconciliation”.
As a reminder, republican deputy Joe Wilson announced, on September 5, via platform X, having presented to the Congress, jointly with the Democrat Jason Crow, a bill aimed at “Restore democracy in Tunisia”.
According to its initiators, this text aims to “support democracy in Tunisia and impose sanctions on Tunisian officials involved in human rights violations”.
