A disturbing wave, new record seizure of ecstasy tablets at La Goulette

Tunisian customs agents at the port of La Goulette managed to thwart a smuggling attempt on a “very large” amount of drug tablets, mainly Ecstasy, hidden in a car from a European country.

According to initial information, cited by Mosaique FM, the agents suspected the vehicle during passenger control operations landing a ferry. Subject to the scanner, then to a meticulous excavation, the car revealed the presence of hundreds of thousands of tablets.

The discovery was immediately reported to the prosecution of the Tunis court of first instance, which ordered the opening of an investigation. The file was entrusted to the services of the anti-structure brigade under the judicial police in El Gorjani in order to identify the managers and the possible ramifications of this network.

A series of disturbing seizures

Thishe business comes only a few days after other spectacular seizures at the port of Radès, where customs services had intercepted large quantities of narcotics and psychotropic drugs hidden in imported cargoes.

These operations testify to an intensification of attempts to bring in Tunisia synthetic drugs, which are experiencing an increase in consumption environments.

Security issues

The multiplication of these entries illustrates not only the growing pressure of trafficking networks on Tunisian maritime borders, but also the major risks for Tunisian youth, particularly targeted by the circulation of ecstasy type tablets. Authorities say they want to strengthen port monitoring and intensify international cooperation to dismantle these sectors.
