A new step has just been taken towards the realization of one of the most promising energy projects in the north of the country. A working session was held Monday at the headquarters of the governorate of Bizerte around the project to produce 75 megawatts of electricity using wind energy, initiated by the company ABO Energy Tunisie.
The meeting was chaired by Governor Salem Ben Yaacoub, in the presence of company representatives, Wissam Dkhil and Mejdi El Mazni, as well as the secretary general of the governorate, Abdelatif Hamid.
According to Wissam Dkhil, the project will generate 75 MW, the equivalent of the electricity consumption of around 75,000 inhabitants. The initial investment is estimated at nearly 270 million dinars. In addition to its contribution to the energy transition, the project will create direct and indirect jobs and should contribute to the dynamics of local development, in particular by improving certain infrastructures and opening new economic prospects for the area concerned.
Compliance with regulatory frameworks
The governor of Bizerte assured the full support of regional authorities for this type of strategic initiatives, in line with national guidelines aimed at increasing the share of renewable energies to 35% of the Tunisian energy mix by 2030. He insisted on the need for strict compliance with regulatory frameworks and fluid coordination between the different stakeholders in order to guarantee the best conditions for the success of the project, both environmentally and economically.
ABO Energy Tunisia, a subsidiary of the German group ABO Energy, has been active in Tunisia since 2018. Specializing in the development of renewable energy projects – wind, solar and storage – it has a dedicated team to support the rise of the sector in the country. The Bizerte project marks an important step in consolidating its presence and diversifying the national energy landscape.
