A few days before the end of the school year, Tunisia is preparing to launch a new session of one of its major national exams: the graduation diploma of basic education, better known as “ninth”.
During a press conference held this Friday, May 30, 2025 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education, the director of exams, Mohamed Mili, announced that 33,489 candidates will present this exam, which will take place on June 19, 20 and 21, 2025, in all the governorates of the country.
Among these candidates, 33,180 students are registered in ninth year of general basic education, out of a total of 169,308 registered at this level of education. In parallel, 309 students from the technical basic education sector will also take their final exam.
Beyond the validation of the school curriculum, this examination constitutes a crucial step for students aspiring to integrate a pilot high school. Indeed, candidates will be in competition for 3,750 places available in these establishments of excellence, distributed across the country.
The number of places was set by a decision by the Minister of Education, dated May 12, 2025, specifying the reception capacities of pilot high schools for the 2025-2026 school year.
The ministry assured that all logistical and organizational measures have been taken to guarantee the smooth running of the tests, in a serene and fair climate. The results of this examination are expected for Tuesday, July 7, 2025, after the corrections that will mobilize hundreds of teachers and correctors.
In 2024, they were 32,911 candidates to pass this national event, for the same number of places to provide in pilot high schools.
